This Year, More Than Ever, We Need Your Help!

As many of you know, this past year Education Connection was unable to volunteer in person with the 94 schools in 11 districts across the Greater Austin area.  With this being said, we were still able to volunteer indirectly through actions like book donations, book reading videos, and writing letters to teachers or students.  Online learning often made it difficult for students to reach their full potential due to a lack of consistency and one on one help.  That’s why this year, more than ever before, we need YOUR help!

As volunteers you will be back into the schools and offer students the consistency that they lost for so long.  A student knowing that they’ll have someone every week by their side that’s willing to read to them will mean more than you know.  Students are craving to get back into the classroom and your presence will make it even more exciting to get back into the groove of school.

Here’s how our volunteers have impacted students in the past…

  1. 100% of all teachers notice improvement in some or all of their students reading with literacy partners!
  2. 98% of Literacy Partners notice improvement in some or all of their students they worked with.
  3. 95% of teachers want to participate again this upcoming year.

Additionally, in the 2019-2020 school year, an average of 39,195 minutes were read on a weekly basis that served over 2,699 students!  In the 2020-2021 school year, we want to drastically increase the number of volunteers we have and build up a larger volunteer presence in some of our smaller districts.  In our last active year, we had 1,216 volunteers across 94 schools.  Will you join us this year in playing a part in a child’s literacy development?  You can hear more about the impact that volunteers have seen in students under the Testimonials tab!
